Sure, the facts presented did nothing to sway my mind about the size of ancient trees, or the shape of the globe. I have a confession to make: it resonated with me, too. Watch those videos, and you will hear people speak of how they approached the idea with skepticism, only to find that it began to resonate with them in a peculiar way. More than 10,000 video responses have been posted to date, including summaries, reactions, roundtable discussions, and debunks. It’s a bizarre, incredible idea that has taken the Flat Earthers by storm. But now they believe this, too: What we call forests are just tiny remnants of an ancient and vibrant world, one that featured trees with trunks as wide as mountains that reached to the heavens. To be fair, these people already believed that the Earth is a flat disc, with the Arctic at the center and a NASA-guarded periphery. Last month, a YouTuber from Crimea commenced a conspiracy when they posted a video called “There are no forests on Flat Earth Wake Up.” In an instant, the worldview of thousands of people flipped upside down.
